To the next chapter. Many celebrity splits have rocked Hollywood — including
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux and exes Chris Pratt and Anna Faris. Look back at some of the most shocking breakups through the years.
Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum
Less than a year after surprising fans by secretly tying the knot in a private ceremony, the Oscar nominee and the former The Microphones frontman called it quits. News broke of their split in April 2019.

John Cena and Nikki Bella
Cena and Bella called off their one-year engagement on April 15, 2018. The Blockers actor popped the question during Wrestlemania 33 in 2017. “I have been waiting so long to ask you this. Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace, will you marry me?” he asked at the time. They’d later confirm their split in an exclusive joint statement to Us Weekly.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan
The pair announced in April 2018 that they were separating after nearly nine years of marriage. They tied the knot in 2009 three years after meeting on set of Step Up and welcomed daughter Everly in 2013. “Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible,” they said in a joint statement to Us Weekly. “We are still a family and will always be loving, dedicated parents to Everly.”

Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston
The actors announced in February 2018 that they were separating after two years of marriage — and seven years together overall. “In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year,” the pair told
Us Weekly in a joint statement. “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
The exes made headlines when the actress filed for divorce after two years of marriage in September 2016 citing irreconcilable differences. In February 2018, the pair were reportedly still working out their divorce settlement. They are parents of six children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert
The country superstars announced their split after four years of marriage in July 2015. “This is not the future we envisioned,” their representatives told
Us Weekly in a statement at the time. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Us Weekly exclusively revealed in November 2015 that Rossdale cheated on Stefani with their family nanny, three months after the pair confirmed their split. “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” the stars told Us in a statement at the time. The exes were married for 13 years and are parents of three sons — Kingston, Zuma and Apollo.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
It’s over. The Oscar winner and Coldplay frontman announced in March 2014 that they were going their separate ways after more than a decade of marriage. “It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” they said in a joint statement. “We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate.” The exes — who are parents of daughter Apple and son Moses — finalized their divorce in July 2016.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Moving on. Holmes and Cruise announced that they were divorcing after five years of marriage in June 2012. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest. This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to
Us at the time. The pair welcomed Suri in April 2006.

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris
The couple announced in August 2017 that they were legally separating after eight years of marriage. “We tried really hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep the situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together,” they said in a joint statement. The parents of Jack both filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences that December.
